FOREVER YOUNG

“Age is a state of mind”

forever young silvia njoki cover[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”1″]L[/su_dropcap]ast week I learned the true meaning of the phrase “You are only as old as you feel”
But before I get into that, let me start by thanking you for all the sweet birthday wishes you shared with me across my social media connections. I appreciate the efforts of every single one of you to make my day really special!

Every year I call my Mom on my birthday. But this year, something curious happened. Having wished me a happy one, she then proceeded to say that I was two years younger than I am – Or I thought I was. For a split second or maybe even slightly longer I cherished the feeling of being  young again, arguing to myself that my mom must be right, and I must have had my calculations wrong ! But lo and behold, I was quickly snapped back to reality, when after a little while she admitted to having made a calculation error of two years. And there I was, feeling a tad bit disappointed.

Now I truly believe that age is only a state of mind. We age every day and it is reflected by our physical bodies. But mentally, how old we are is really up to ourselves. The best nutrition and exercise is paramount to looking young. But most importantly, I believe that your personal style choice and your overall appearance have a strong subliminal effect on what age you feel you are and how old you are perceived to be. This sequined dress, for instance, which I have had for years, always makes me feel young wild and free.  Sometimes so young that I occasionally feel that I have to tone down this little embellished number with a darker lip and a trench coat as in this case, to give the overall look a more mature feel.
