[su_column size=”1/2″] This fur coat from the 1980s is probably the oldest piece in my closet and one which I truly treasure. It is of course not real fur– but the quality of this faux fur is surprisingly high. I got it from a very special person, who is no longer with us, but it served her well in the cold European winters, as it also kept me warm and comfy during my stay in Europe, out in the shivering cold up north. Here in Kenya, I’ve worn it a couple of times to chilly nights out. Faux fur pieces can be easily thrifted across Kenya and are an instant way to add a subtle sophistication to any look, and not to mention the irrefutable comfort of being swaddled on a cold night. My thoughts went back to my late friend who gave me this coat as I visited this beautiful and serene memorial park, which is part of the Nairobi War Cemetery. It is the final resting place of over 2000 Commonwealth soldiers who gave their lives during the Second World War in Kenya and its neighboring countries, making it the largest war cemetery in East Africa. [su_column size=”1/2″] The names of these brave men and women, who fought to keep our country safe, as well as many others who died further afield during the liberation of Somaliland, Ethiopia and Madagascar, are all engraved on the pillars as well as on the individual tomb stones on their graves, which cover a large area just behind the trees. Out of respect for the war heroes, I did not shoot on the cemetery itself, but you can find a beautiful virtual tour of it on this site
