IN MOTION

It’s a bright morning in Barcelona, with the cool wind blowing. The sun just came up and I am enjoying my view of the city and a cup of Kenyan coffee. My stay so far has been a whirlwind of excitement. I was invited here by Procter and Gamble, the manufacturer of Ariel washing powder and Downy fabric conditioner, to attend a conference bringing together fashion experts from around the world to learn about fabric care, and how Ariel and downy cleans, protects and enhances your garments – down to the micro fibers – especially in performance outfits which are slowly replacing our everyday pieces.

The term for this is athleisure wear. I was really amazed to learn about the advanced science behind this and gained a lot of new knowledge, which will be useful in my future work and I am thrilled to share more and more of this with you, little by little. I met a lot of very interesting people from many countries and also enjoyed my time with our Kenyan team of fashion media experts, as together we explored the beautiful city of Barcelona. I love it here although I must admit that it can be hard to get used to the cold. A world of difference from my home at the Kenyan coast where I love to chill in basics around the house. A kikoy or a lesso dress is sometimes all I need, but when stepping out I need a bit more pizzaz like the outfit featured on this post.

Matching fashion, style and comfort has become my key. It’s kind of a balancing act. My coastal wardrobe is made up of very light outfits, airy and open to the balmy breeze and often flow in the wind for some extra drama. And when occasionally in the evenings it gets a little cool, I have a couple of light Pashmina shawls – to wrap around my shoulders. These have been key, but moving forward, I will also give priority to fabric care by taking a keen look at care clothing labels, something we sometimes overlook. I have gained great insight in this during the Procter and Gamble seminar; about the importance of not only being fashion forward, but also choosing the right fabrics as they influence how you care for your clothes. So please pay attention to this as you pack your holiday pieces.
