CONTRAST

Contrast[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”1″]S[/su_dropcap]eated here at 7 o’clock in the morning listening to Xavier Rudd, Whom I recently discovered and have come to love. I enjoy my early mornings just after a beautiful sunrise over the ocean sipping on my tea as the cool wind is blowing.

And as I go through the photos for today’s post, I giggle, as always, at the contrast between my look this morning, wrapped in a kikoy, paired with a vest, totally nude of makeup, and the fairly glam look I am about to share with the world on my blog. And I can assure you not much will be changing today. I am hosting a lunch and a playdate, and I shall probably not wear very much makeup and will definitely remain in a state of underdress. Yes, I love to dress up when I am hobnobbing at parties in Nairobi, but on other occasions I will be in my Mommy mode dressed down like I will be today. Dressing up and wearing makeup, though a huge form of self-expression, have become such social norms for me – because of my line of work. So much that it may surprise you that I have come to appreciate and love days like today. Coincidentally, The photos on this post also illustrate this theme of contrasts. I am wearing a fairly glamorous outfit shot in a not so glamorous setting. I sometimes aim to achieve contrasts in my style shoots, It’s a good conversation starter – well, that is If the outfit is nothing to talk about. But the key fashion element for me in this ensemble is the contrast between the fabrics and texture; the sequined skirt matched with this faux fur definitely adds edge and depth to the outfit.
