I love beach holidays and just spent s few amazingly lovely days on a Lamu getaway. The beaches of this tropical paradise are amazing and once you have settled down on a comfortable day bed in the shade after a refreshing swim, the last thing you want to do is rushing back to your hotel to pick up something which you now realize that you actually miss. You probably would not have left your smart phone and a bit of cash behind; but experience has taught me that just a few more items would help you to enjoy the experience to its fullest. I go to the beach often – and have learnt not to carry around a too heavy bag. My beach bags change from time to time and lately this Michael Soi one has been serving me well. Here is my shortest check list of what to carry for my comfort:
Light shawl and Dress – Towels are bulky and take a long time to dry. Plus drying in the sun doesn’t take that long. I therefore opt for scarves that are not only cute but also come in handy as a cover up over your swimsuit. A light dress is great to wear over your swimsuit too.
Sun screen – I have learnt my lesson after days of painful sunburns – and not to mention the long term side effects on my skin. I never venture out into the scorching sun without protecting my body and especially my face and shoulders with high SPF sunscreen; not only to prevent sunburn but also to avoid wrinkles and long term damage to my face. Currently using and loving UV protector for face and exposed areas SPF 50 from Oriflame.
Sandals – Not just a cool accessory but also a real necessity when walking on hot sand or walkways, and easy to carry when you prefer to walk bare-footed. These are from BATA and compliment a brightly colored pedicure so beautifully.
Sun glasses – Sunnies are my favorite accessories but also an essential protection I would never want to be without, even off the beach
Neck piece or earrings – Too add a bit of glam on the beach, I try to keep this as minimal as possible
Hair tie – To tame my wet hair after a swim
Lip balm – Lips are very exposed and vulnerable, so applying a lip balm (possibly with high SPF) often is a must.
A good book – I always bring the book I am just reading or a magazine along especially when I do not have company.
Wet wipes – At home I store them in the fridge so they are cool and fresh to use; great for wiping sweat off my face or for cleaning my hands.
Waterproof bag – For keeping my phone, power-bank, charger and money dry, especially if a swimming or a boat ride is included in my plans.
What’s in your beach bag?
